Functional Medicine

The body is not a collection of independent organs divided up by medical specialties, but an integrated system that, when balanced and harmonized, functions at its best.

What is Functional Medicine?

Functional Medicine is a Personalized Medicine approach with the ultimate aim of optimizing health. We view the body as one integrated system; where everything affects everything else. In Functional Medicine, we identify and address the root causes of disease rather than just apply a bandaid to the symptoms.

In an ideal world, we try to use as many natural approaches as possible. We see food as medicine and we know that the body understands things that come from nature better than synthetic pharmaceuticals. For instance, depression is not a deficiency in Prozac, but is linked to deficiencies in vitamins and minerals already found in our bodies. That being said, we believe there is a time and place for medicines. Different from many providers, we understand and carefully consider the mechanism of action and various side effects of any medication prescribed.

What can Functional Medicine be used for?

Essentially, everything.

The beauty of Functional Medicine is that since we are fixing and optimizing the system as a whole. We are not focusing on a specific diagnosis; we are looking at imbalances, and correcting them. We are looking at what the body needs more of, what the body needs to get rid of, and then facilitate those processes.

When clients are ill or compromised, IV nutritional therapy can be incredibly powerful. We have found that in many people the microbiome is compromised. We get to work on healing the gut right away, but in the meantime getting nutrients in via the bloodstream can rapidly accelerate healing.
