Can NAD+ help patients with neurodegenerative diseases such as Alzheimer’s, Parkinson’s, and Huntington’s?
Scientists are studying NAD depletion in the brain. NAD could be a link to new therapies for those suffering from these illnesses.

What is A Neurodegenerative Disease?
Neurodegenerative disease is a term that is used for various conditions which mainly affects the neuron functions in the human brain. We consider the neuron as the primary building block of our body’s nervous system in which includes the spinal cord and the brain. Neurons often do not reproduce or replace themselves so when they die, the body won’t be able to replace them anymore. When these neurons becomes damaged or die, usually because of aging or sometimes due to some physical trauma, a neurodegenerative disease enters the picture.
What are the Neurodegenerative Diseases?
Have you heard about some illness that are often acquired due to aging? Did you notice your grandparents always being forgetful or have some trouble moving? They must have what we call a neurodegenerative disease.
Neurodegenerative diseases commonly doesn’t have a cure and has debilitating conditions that results in drastic degeneration and worst, death of neurons and nerve cells. Death of nerve cells can often result in problems with movement, often called Ataxias and poor mental functioning, often called dementias.
Since Neurodegenerative diseases are due to progressive death of neurons in different parts of the nervous system, since these cells cannot be replaced it triggers neurological and neuropsychological symptoms of different disorders. Here are some common cases and examples of neurodegenerative diseases:
Parkinson’s Disease
Alzeihmer’s Disease
Huntington’s Disease
How can NAD+ therapy help with Neurodegenerative Diseases?
IV NAD+ Therapy treatment helps with this diseases since NAD+ is a coenzyme present in every cell and it drives enzymatic reactions initiating cellular revitalization function. Nicotinamide Adenine Dinucleotide (NAD+) seems to have a positive influence in dealing with neurodegenerative conditions. Remember, each cell in the organ system of our body plays a vital role and it this role isn’t met, the cell cannot function accordingly on the environment in performing. When the DNA structure is shaken, the energy source, often called Mitochondria will be susceptible to energy fluctuations because of the dysfunction. This eventually leads to neurons being damaged and the origin of different neurodegenerative diseases.
Lucky for us, NAD+ has the amazing ability to regulate a type of protein called Sirtuins and sirtuins have a very important role in harmonizing anti-inflammatory processes throughout the brain and the body.
